Yorkshire has become one of the top tourist destinations and experiencing it on two wheels is truly a unique and uplifting experience. It is world renowned for the quality of the road cycling since the visit of the Tour de France in 2014 complemented by the now annual Tour de Yorkshire. The choice of Yorkshire for the 2019 World Championships has given the county, and lovers of cycling, something to really look forward to!
Our cycling tours, rides and routes are designed for riders of all abilities who want to enjoy what Yorkshire has to offer. So if your preference is gentle leisure cycling with an emphasis on great café stops and glorious scenery, we have something for you. For the more serious cyclists, you can test yourself against some of the toughest climbs in the UK. This is where the Brownlee brothers, Lizzie Deignan and Scott Thwaites do their training!
To assist in choosing the best ride for you, we have developed some guidance on grades of ride, so please have a look at our Ride Grading section.
Every ride is supported and includes a pre-ride bike check from our mechanic and a stop at a carefully chosen cafe. We use experienced local ride leaders so all you have to do is concentrate on turning the pedals. Some of the rides also have a dedicated support vehicle.
Our focus is on providing a Yorkshire cycling experience that you wouldn’t get from just plotting the rides yourself. Our extensive local knowledge of routes, climbs, scenery and the essential café stops will add so much to your trip to Yorkshire. We’re actually really friendly as well and love meeting new people and taking them out cycling! It’s amazing how the experience of cycling with a group is so uplifting, especially when you are taking on a challenge together.
Yorkshire Velo Tours began in 2015 putting on a series of tours, rides and events in 2016 all of which received great feedback from clients, see our reviews page. In 2017 we have expanded our range of tours and rides and also added the ‘route store’. We look forward to welcoming you to cycling in Yorkshire!

He’s the author of the ‘100 Greatest Climbs’ series of books and has appeared on numerous TV shows, including riding many Yorkshire hills for ITV’s Cycle Show. If you do one of our rides with Simon, he’ll talk with you all day long about his love for cycling up hills!
Our (very tall) rider leader has lived and ridden his bike in these parts nearly all his life. He also loves to build high end bikes and is the fount of all knowledge on anything to do with road bikes.
Jill has lived all her life in the Wharfe Valley, but is a relatively recent convert to road cycling. She’s certainly hooked now though and is a keen member and a ride leader with the Ilkley Cycling Club.
Jayne is a qualified cycling instructor. When not teaching others, she is out on her bike exploring the Yorkshire Dales and beyond.
Dan is a lifelong lover of the bike and the coordinator of group rides for the Ilkley Cycling Club for whom he leads rides at least twice a week.
James is a 25 year old keen cyclist from Yorkshire who has grown up in the Yorkshire Dales. He spends an inordinate amount of time on the roads around the region and covered 16,000 miles last year with many of his exploits covered in his popular blog www.pedalsandpain.co.uk
